Within the framework of the EU project Gifted Elementary Students@Digital Fabrication (FabLab), the 2nd module of this project was held at VERN’ University of Applied Sciences and consisted of an educational workshop for elementary school teachers.
The goal of this project is to improve gifted children's competencies through digital fabrication – designing and making models with CAD / CAM and 3D technologies, using digitally defined data.
The project is co-financed by the European Social Fund and it is carried out by Varaždin Electromechanical School with partner support of local authorities, educators and companies: Varaždin County, Sračinec Elementary School, Tužno Elementary School, Mobilisis Ltd., SVIMA associations and VERN'.
The main topics of the workshop held by our lecturer Gordana Ćorić were: the development of creativity, the understanding of entrepreneurship and the role of incubators and mentoring models. The teachers have also had a chance to learn how to properly set expectations of future FabLabs at schools, how to provide guidelines for developing educational programs for gifted and highly motivated children, they were given an insight into creative ways of stimulating creativity and the role and the opportunities provided by start-up incubators and mentoring models.
In the second part of the session, our alumni Marina Petrović (TerraHub/ALtFinLab) presented the concept and activities of Radiona.org and Zagreb Makerspace associations, and through these examples teachers were able to see a new dimension of their future work in FabLabs, especially in open-source, DIY (do-it-yourself) and DIWO (do-it-with-others) segments.
